Wrong Turn at Sundance Ski Resort
Last ski season my wife Lorna and I went skiing at Sundance Ski Resort. Have you been in a situation where you thought the direction that you were going was going to take you where you intended to go only to realize that you took a wrong turn a long time ago. Once you realize what you have done, you have the option to turn around and go back or just keep going?
Well, like Bruce Springsteen said, “I took a wrong turn and I just kept going? That is what I did. Fortunately/Unfortunately I had the camera rolling the entire time.
This cross-hill on Grizzley Bowl is usually more manageable. People take it fairly often and I have been across it several times. The difference this trip is that the cat-track trail/s were in horrible condition, one was very narrow and uncomfortably icy, the second trail had huge bumps that I just can’t navigate easily.
“I TOOK A WRONG TURN AND i JUST KEPT GOING.” – The Boss
As I mention in the video, I am a big fella. I’m not equipped well to slide or tumble 100 or more yards down a steep icy bumpy mountain.
If this isn’t a little unnerving to some of you, that’s okay. It sure was for me. Towards the end of the video I admit that it was unnerving.
The moral of the story is that when you take a wrong turn, you may want to think twice about turning around and going back to the point where you got off track. The second moral of the story is that when you are skiing, know what is down hill from where you are going. I should have had a map, I would have easily been able to realize that I was going the wrong way or at least where I should have turned. That is why I named it, Wrong Turn at Sundance Ski Resort.
Surprisingly, my heartbeat still starts to pitter-patter just watching this video, it genuinely makes me nervous as I watch it. I’m surprised that I haven’t had recurring nightmares about treacherous ski conditions or this specific incident.
